2026 marks my 11th consecutive Breakthrough Challenge Ride ride! Back in 2016, at the age of 67, I never thought that I would be able to ride this event more than a year or two. But here I am 10 years later, and I am as grateful as ever to have survived my bout with cancer.

It almost came to an end in February, 2024 as I sustained a near catastrophic 18 mph crash into a tree that was laying across the road. There were no highlights of my life that passed through my mind. my only thought was that “this is it”. Once again, I am grateful to be a survivor.

I am a cancer survivor that has received the benefits from advances in Radiation Oncology.  As a survivor I have an obligation to help others that may find themselves, or a family member, or a friend in the midst of a cancer battle. 

I have witnessed many people in treatment and I know first-hand how hard their battle is.  Their individual battles have inspired me to do my part to help end cancer!

Ending cancer depends upon clinical research to develop new and more effective treatments and is why the Breakthrough Challenge movement is so important.

100% of the funds raised by Breakthrough Challenge riders go to support the cancer research programs at the University of Pennsylvania's. Abramson Cancer Center in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
